Water Retention: What Type Do You Have?

By Linda Lazarides of Health-Diets.Net

If you have swollen legs, swollen hands or feet, or premenstrual bloating, you may have been diagnosed with water retention or idiopathic edema. Your doctor has probably given you diuretic medicines to treat the condition. But diuretics are not a cure and can sometimes make the problem worse.

This is because there are two types of water retention - and at least seven different causes of this condition. Diuretics are great for Type I, where your blood circulation is normal. But if you have Type II, which occurs when your blood capillaries are too leaky, diuretics could just end up dehydrating you.

Research is showing that people with Type II water retention need a special diet which combats the causes of their problem. This diet is called the "Waterfall Diet" (during the first two weeks you normally pee a lot). It's not the same for everyone. You have to fill in some questionnaires and carry out a self-test to find out which foods are safe for you to eat. But it is possible to get rid of a lot of water retention and water weight - sometimes 10-20 pounds in just over a week.

If you think you may have water retention but are not sure - (for instance if you eat very little but just can't lose weight) the Waterfall Diet can help you find out.

It is a healthy diet and should not leave you feeling hungry.
