Advice For People With Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
By Linda Lazarides
Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is thought to affect up to 40,000 people in the UK alone. It means you are not just 'tired all the time' but too exhausted to do even the smallest things. CFS is often confused with depression, and people with CFS are frequently depressed, but it is because they are tired and can see no way out of their problem. Many factors can contribute to CFS, including allergy, chemical sensitivity, nutritional deficiencies and toxic overload (an excess of waste substances in your system). Some people develop the condition after being unknowingly exposed to toxic chemicals. It is most distressing for sufferers because there is no medical treatment but few doctors will admit this. In a UK survey of chronic fatigue sufferers who had used natural therapies, most said that changing their diet and taking nutritional supplements helped them most. If you have CFS it is important to eat as many fresh vegetables as you can every day. Making them into soups and stews is both tasty and easy as a large pan of soup will last several days. If you are very ill you can use chopped frozen vegetables and tinned tomatoes instead. A useful supplement would be a multivitamin/mineral product providing 50 mg of the main B vitamins plus some extra magnesium. Try to persuade your doctor to give you regular magnesium injections. These were reported in the 'Lancet' to be an effective treatment for many people with CFS. Some CFS sufferers also report benefits from taking daily cold baths, but don’t persist with these if they make you feel worse.
Linda Lazarides is a naturopathic nutritionist and author of seven books on health and nutrition, including the Waterfall Diet (how to permanently get rid of water retention) and Linda's Flat Stomach Secrets.

Hi Linda, I did a bit of research a few years ago into cfs. I seem to have acquired it some years ago while working in an orchard. Anyway A support group I found was suggesting Vitamin B injections. I didn't go down that path. Reg

Hi Reg, Sounds like you may have been 'pesticided'. Pesticide exposure can really affect the nervous system and energy production. Hoping my intel helps a bit. Linda
Thank you for sharing this health tip with us, Linda. There are so many things that are available to us now, that weren't known 10-20 years ago. Keep up the good work. Best to you. Frederick
